Lesson 8 Life Drawing

- Review and warm up - building from torso outwards with line responsibility

- Gestural studies - choose which method makes most sense to you in emphasising gesture

- Summaries of the Life Drawing activities from this course - the need to balance various aspects in each drawing

- Your future life drawing and anatomy study

- Activity 14: one long study beginning with a gestural base - taking time to refine from broad sweeps and considering biodynamic gesture with light from the eye rendering so that a modelled, gestural, anatomical figure results

Lesson 1 - Blocking in

Accurate 2D Relationships of key points and important edges

Activity 1:

Lesson 2 - Form in Line

Cross contours, Subforms and line weights to communicate form

Activity 2:

Lesson 3 - Rectangular Prism and Frusta in the figure

Looking to bony landmarks of blocky regions to see and define the figure in terms of rectangular prisms and "frusta" (Truncated pyramids)

Activity 3 and Activity 4:

Lesson 4 - The Figure as Softened Frusta

Combining the rectangular prism, cone and sphere forms into the tapering "pillow" form

Activity 5:

Lesson 5 - Design in the figure

Design relationships, Anatomical Patterns, Pose specific patterns,  S,C and I lines

Activity 6: The figure as two maximum five sided shapes, then block in

Activity 7: The figure as 5 straight projecting lines, then second pass of 5 lines, then block in

Activity 8: The Figure as 5 S, C, I lines, then second pass 5 S, C, I lines, then block in

Lesson 6 - Gesture

Lines of action, 3D sweep, Exaggeration

Activity 9: Line of action (mainly torso), Block in torso, Line of action of limbs, block in

Activity 10: Building from the torso out - exaggerating gesture

Activity 11: 5 Long lines then exaggerate (same as Lesson 8 but exaggerating the 5 Long lines before blocking in

Lesson 7 - Draw Responsibly

Table of aspects to balance

Line responsibility as skipping steps in Lesson 2 process with reference to design, gesture, anatomy, form

Self knowledge, management and vision

Activity 12: drawing with clean, direct diagrammatic lines from central areas and long lines out

Activity 13: Studies of particular parts of the body - diagrammatic investigation

Lesson 8 - The modelled gestural figure

Drawing as the integration of all the aspects studied or mentioned above, Principle of "divide, conquer, synthesise" in your ongoing study

Activity 14: One long study of 1.5 hours (3 sittings), beginning with a gestural organisation, then integrating accuracy, form, design, anatomy and rendering (light from the eye)
